Dear Members,
360 Fitness Club is proud to have been at the forefront of the fitness industry in Tamworth for the last 16 years. To ensure we keep meeting your needs into the future, we are planning a major renovation of our club that will reconfigure the lap pool in our Indoor Aquatic Centre to introduce a new suite of wellness and recovery services, while also expanding the capacity of Learn to Swim and our Health Clinic. The upgraded club will offer you more services and even better value for money. Construction would happen in 2026, so nothing will change in the near future. Works would be staged so members will always have access to the gym, classes and at least one of the pools.
Many of you know that we (360 owners DJ and Jay) temporarily moved to the USA to support DJ’s family in 2019, and Covid travel restrictions stretched that visit to three years. While in the USA, we did a lot of research on how fitness is evolving, particularly as the links betweenfitness, mental health and longevity become more apparent.
Fitness is becoming one part of a healthy lifestyle that includes therapies focusing on mental wellbeing, injury prevention and recovery. People want to feel good and set themselves up to live well for longer. Now that we have been able to return to Australia and DJ is healthy again, we want to share these new therapies with our members under the one roof, so you can live life to the fullest.
When we built 360 Fitness Club, Tamworth Regional Council told us they had long-standing plans to build an Indoor Aquatic Centre, but they would not include a gym in the development. Council has since changed its mind, and their new plans include every fitness service we currently offer alongside the indoor pools. Council told us last year that they’re expecting to open the new facility in mid-2026. We believe an Indoor Aquatic Centre will be a valuable addition to the Tamworth region, but we also recognise that Council’s decision to mimic our business model will put more pressure on our club.
We expect all the swim squads and almost all of Tamworth’s competitive lap swimmers to move to the new facility when it opens. Sadly, our lap pool already operates at a loss even with the support of all of Tamworth’s winter swimmers, due to the high cost of heating and chemicals. As wonderful as this new Aquatic Centre will be for Tamworth, we know the scale of the development also means our lap pool will no longer be viable, and we are realistic about the impact on our business if we were to do nothing.
Instead, we are looking at this situation as an excellent opportunity to introduce a greater range of health and wellness services that people are already enjoying in the USA and metro areas in Australia, as well as expand the capacity of our Learn to Swim School (which has more demand than we have spots available) and 360 Health Clinic. As such, we will soon be submitting the following plans:
We have put the leasehold for Hopscotch Restaurant & Bar on the market and would use the proceeds to help fund this project. We expect our plans to take a significant amount of time to be approved through Council, and they may change as we go. We will keep you updated along the way. Construction would largely happen in 2026, after our next Members’ Day event. Work will be staged so members and our Swim School will continue to be able to access one of the pools during construction.
We appreciate your support. We’re looking forward to offering you an even better health and wellness experience into the future.
